A single-herb liquid extract of dried bark of Piscidia piscipula, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Jamaican dogwood is a Caribbean and Central American tree of coastal woodland, and it is not a dogwood at all — it is a legume, with pinnate leaves and clusters of white pea flowers flushed pink. Its bark was pounded and thrown into tidal pools to stun fish, which floated up and were gathered by hand; that practice is the whole of its name, since piscidia and piscipula both mean fish-killer.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Jamaican dogwood is a fish poison. Its rotenoids affect the nervous system in quantity. Do not exceed the suggested amount, do not use it if you have heart disease, and do not drive or operate machinery after taking it. Not for use in pregnancy, while breastfeeding, or by children or the elderly.
